About ISEE

What is the ISEE?

The ISEE stands for The Independent School Entrance Examination.

It is an admission test for candidates applying to grades five through twelve. There are three levels in this three-hour exam. A Lower lever is for those seeking admission to grade five and six, and who are currently four and five grade students. A Middle Level will test the candidates to grade seven and eight and who are currently six and seven grade students. An Upper Level is for those seeking admission to grade nine through twelve, and who are currently ten to eleven grade students.

Test Format.

There are five sections in the test and each section is assigned a specific time limit.

A Lower Level

test includes sections in verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, Math and an essay.
Verbal reasoning section is 25 minutes long and consists of 40 questions;
Quantitative reasoning section is 35 minutes long and consists of 35 questions;
Reading comprehension is 40 minutes long and consists of 36 questions;
Math section is 40 minutes long and consists of 35 questions;
Essay is 30 minutes long.

A Middle Level and an Upper Level

tests include the same sections in verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, Math and an essay; however the time limit and the number of questions are different:
Verbal reasoning section is 20 minutes long and consists of 40 questions;
Quantitative reasoning section is 35 minutes long and consists of 35 questions;
Reading comprehension is 40 minutes long and consists of 40 questions;
Math section is 40 minutes long and consists of 45 questions;
Essay is 30 minutes long.
